Natalie Cole grew up in Southern California and began taking art classes at the age of five. While still in high school she attended a pre-college program at California Institute of the Arts, and was recognized as a California Arts Scholar. She later received her BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and continued painting and drawing in her home studio while taking art classes through local or online programs (RISD, SFAI and BOLD School). During this time she also had the opportunity to work abroad, and returned to San Francisco, volunteering as an art instructor at the International Rescue Committee. Here she taught photography to refugee children, designing a rotating exhibit at various San Francisco art galleries. Three of her students were formally recognized by the United Nations for their work in artistic expression (photography and essay).

She lives in San Francisco with her husband and two kids.
